Fixing our nation’s illegal immigration problem will undoubtbly result in one of the most contentious debates ever in American history. Whether in 2009 or 2010, Comprehensive Immigration Reform will be passed. What will be the fine details of such Comprehensive Immigration reform legislation remains to be seen, but such legislation will profoundly affect the future of this nation.
Get ready to be bombarded with all the scary and racist, hate filled arguments on why this Country should not pass Comprehensive Immigration Reform and why we should give mass deportations, or “attrition through enforcement” a chance. Then get ready for massive celebration from the 12+ undocumented immigrants who will embrace their new-found American Citizenship, they’ll move on and quickly and quietly assimilate into our fabric of society, some have already begun such assimilation, but those anti-immigrant groups will remain, small in numbers, but increasingly vocal, persistent in their attempt to drive a wedge and stifle a cohesive and multi cultural America.

The production value on this video is great. This should have a positive impact at least in swaying those who aren't convinced either way about immigration reform.
I can not even explain in words the disrespect I have seen from the illegal immigrant community and the Mexican-American community toward the USA. Around the country we have seen many Mexican flags flying at rallies, the US flag taken down and burned or put up the pole upside down under a foreign flag (the Mexican). We see these people DEMAND citizenship and DEMAND things be in Spanish.
This is in contrast to legal immigrants and immigrants of the past who learned the language and put the USA first. The system is not broken. It was just not enforced. Just because these people think we need illegal immigrants does not give the illegal immigrants the right to just come in without permission into the USA. This country can not and will not be able to take in every person who wishes to come here. We already take over 1 million a year. But those 1 million are not the issue. I for one am sick of seeing people use this country as a motel and disrespect it–a country that my brother was wounded in war for. A country my grandfather died defending.
I need the Dream Act to be passed out brother, and guess what, my first move will be the US navy, because I am an AMERICAn as much as ur grandfather and as much as you are…… Support us, those of us in this land need to be united, look at China, we have to fight against those now . GO NAVY
I disagree. Keep the deportations and raids. We have over 11 million CITIZENS out of work but we should pass some kind of amnesty NOW that should not be passed in a good economy? Thats insane! These people are so loyal to Mexico I say we adopt its immigration laws word for word. We here in the USA should say "Mexico is great". So great that we copy its immigration laws and make felons out of all illegal immigrants.
I totally respect your opinion, but if you think about it who is working the fields growing our fruits and vegetables? Who is building those nice buildings we have? All you really see out there are immigrants doing jobs that us Americans don't want.
I disagree. They will not assimilate, they refuse to assimilate. They refuse to learn English no matter how long they live here. That is not the plan. The plan is to turn this country into a third world country with a servant class just like Mexico. Their arrogance is shocking. Perhaps Americans should move to Mexico live there illegally, live off the public larder and refuse to speak the language. Would that be acceptable? Illegal activity should not be rewarded or overlooked as necessary for people to have better lives. The law should be respected, they laugh at our laws and things will get worse if there is amnesty again (remember 1986)?
you say they refuse to learn English no matter what huh? It is very funny you say that when you only know a 0.0001% of the mexican population here in the U.S. More than half of the undocumented people working here work hard, if not harder, than you do. Even though people like you dislike undocumented people, still, some U.S. Citizens hire undocumented workers, maids, farmers, and even border patrol agents themselves have hired a few. very contradicting huh? You say Mexico is a servant class? Mexico actually has a culture. And only because the U.S. dollar is worth more it does not mean that mexicans are worth less. Why so much hate towards Mexicans? Racist perhaps? there are many more ethnicities that have a huge amount of people coming into the U.S. ; japanese, chinese, arab, iraqi, and many countries in central and south america. If anybody is to make the U.S. into a 3rd world country it would be the natural, caucasian american race. Seems funny how many U.S. citizens take their citizenship for granted. Many caucasian and African-American end up in prison, drugs, violence. Yes, Mexicans too, we all make wrong decision here and there, but at least the majority are trying hard to stay on the right track, otherwise they woudn't be here. Perhaps it is your arrogance that is shocking yourself. I think the only people living off anybody else it would be the U.S. Citizens, when many of them take advantage of those undocumented workers and eat the fruit and vegetables they pick and provide us with. When many are hired to keep our lawns and houses clean or have our cars washed. Do the contruction of our homes, business or any other type of structure. All these things that many U.S. citizens don't care to do, are too lazy to do it, or simply want to PAY less money for and want to take advantage of is what makes U.S. citizens to basically live off of the undocumented workers, of any ethnicity or background. You forget where your background is from huh? there is no such thing as being american. as if you say, British, Mexican, Italian, etc. there were no americans here in the U.S. to start with. This entire country was bought, stolen, some found and other parts stripped away from the natives. "Americans" pushed around the natives and forcefully took land from mexicans for greed. The U.S. has a history of taking advantage of others. I think it is a great idea and plan to give something back even if it is just the size of a grain of mustard. The U.S. is starting to use their intelligence for helpful things instead of an unnecessary war. There are so many more things I would like to say to you but unfortunately, I think you refuse to be smart and open your eyes and realize that you are in the 21st century and that the U.S. is not predominantly Caucasian. I think your arrogance and ignorance is blinding you.
You have yet to learn.
A Mexican, trilingual college graduate immigrant soon to be citizen.
Absolutely agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jose,
Well-said. I am currently writing a paper on immigration and you have inspired me.
Thank you
thanks ,
You are 100% right!
Wife of a Mexican, which by the way a hard worker unlike all the U.S citizens I've dated, and also a daughter of a Mexican hard working mother which by the way 73 years old and still a cook in a restaurant and working hard for the money.
Your great. I with you on that!!!!
Thank you. Finally some has the guts to say something sensible about the bigots in this country their ignorance and hate moguering rhetoric.
There are over one million Americans living in Mexico (close to 3% of the population) and the percentage of them that speak Spanish is certainly not higher than the one Mexican immigrants have here. Learning a language at a mature age is fairly difficult, it is very shallow to analyze such a complex problem based on that ability. However, if being a monolingual society is so important and people think it will make America a more competitive nation, be at ease that second generation immigrants do learn and handle English as any other Americans do and "the good news" is that third generations almost always stop using the language of their grandparents burying the threat that the language of Cervantes generates in many Americans.
correction to the previous comment: 1 million is about 1% of the population, sorry for the mistake!!
EVERYONE IS AN ILLEGAL IN THIS LAND
100% agree.
well said!!!!
The illegal immigrants bring shame to this country.
And this contry is sending wrong information to the world, that is, if you break our law, you will be welcomed.
Do you want America become a third world country soon, by allowing millions more illegal aliens come here and create overpopulation here?
Sorry to say this, but probably your last name is not anglo its Mexican!
The only people that bring shame to this country are ignorant people like you. I dont know you and quite frankly am not interested in knowing your beliefs after your ignorant comment. All immigrants know the price they have to pay to live here – that is leaving family behind to make a better future for themselves and their children. Imagine if your ancestors didnt try for that chance. Where would you be? Would you drive the car you drive, wear the brand of clothes you wear eat at the places you eat?
Immigrants work twice as hard, if not more, to get what they have or want because they have to. Opportunities aren't handed to them on a silver platter like many Americans.
It's country, moron. Can't you spell your own language. Shame on you. You bring shame to this country, bitch.

I bet you've broken the law yourself many times…any speeding ticket? or DWI may be? you shouldn't be here either
My wife is pregnant and she is in Australia. I can't bring her over here neither can stay in Australia for due to immigration rules of 6 months of continuous residency. Its pretty painful to be apart from her which is supposed to be the happiest moment of my life. I have to wait another 4 years till I get naturalized. Life is short and being apart for such a long time is unbearable. I love this country dearly and can't forget the things it has given to me, freedom. Now in the pursuit of it, I have lost my basic preveliage of life. Int'l Students, Int'l workers and other people can bring their spouses to US with out any problem and waiting for visa to become available, but me I have been living in States for 5 years now and got GC a year ago and I still have to wait another 4 years due to backlogs of visa and other broken bureaucracy. So, I really hope they will do something to find the solution for this. There are lot of people like me faced with the same problem.
This subject really does affect me in many ways. One because my parents dealt with this issue over 20 years ago (and no I am not Mexican) and another because my boyfriend of 8 years is illegal who is mexican. Everyone thinks that undocumented workers that receive amnesty from the government get things the easy way. I think everyone who thinks this way is just ignorant. Many people have worked so hard to get to this country, much harder than any American-born individual(like myself) to be judged so harshly by so many negative people “American” people. My parents like my boyfriend gave up a lot to get here and worked extremely difficult when they they did. My parents fortunately were here when Regan passed the amnesty law and now I know exactly what they went through seeing my boyfriend go through it. This country is amazing and so are the opportunities and when this law finally does go through you will see a lot of things come out of it, like in my case my two sisters, one who is a doctor and another who is a lawyer–both born from parents who were illegal before the amnesty law was passed. (think of that next time you are in the hospital) or like my boyfriend who although is illegal (and getting taxed) has a very successful restuarant with authentic Mexican food that “Americans” love…Meet a couple of people before making harsh judgement on innocent people who are just trying to live to their full potential which is something that many people cannot do in other countries.
Many immigrants in this country don't come to stay here forever…many just come to work to provide for their family…then return to their country, if we do get some kind of immigration reform there will be many immigrants that come to the US easily then leave to their homeland because thats what many immigrants want… to return home, but being here illegally makes it harder for them to go back because eventually they want to return to work to earn more money then go back home.
Mari,
Just a clarification, the plan is to give them a visa that will allow them to travel back and forth. To overstay that visa will be a huge mistake because with the information provided they can be deported. Now, if the person with the visa decides to stay legally he/she would have to go through the process to stay longer. On top of that this 12+ million people will start paying taxes and Social Security which we all know is bankrupt.
Some of the people undocumented are still here because they do not have to pay taxes, once they are required to become current in their taxes, pay Social Security, Medicare and pay a fine, they will think twice… One way of looking at it
Jennifer, you sound pretty damn ignorant !
I am married to a now US Citizen, I completley agree with everything you said. He works very hard for everything we have, he didn't steal it he earned it. Yes my husband is from Mexico but considers this to be his home. What hurts our economy is that the government to freely gives government funding (medical, foodstamps, etc) to illegals so they can have babies with no questions asked. WHAT THEY NEED TO DO is if they need help fine, but use medical like others insurances COPAY each time they use it. Not just free they need to be held accountable.
the firt proble to fix if any related to immigration is to fix the broken legal immigration. Thousands of people like us paying taxes, waiting in line for years deserve more than just another LONG wait!!
they should focus more on removing the visa backlogs for Family and employment Category, before undocumented illegal immigrants.
they should focus more on removing the visa backlogs for Family and employment Category, before undocumented illegal immigrants.
I want to be an American…HELP ME!!!!!
A comprehensive Immigration reform is for the sake of all
The efectivenessof human society depends upon information which is immensely powerful
It 's time to transcend stereotyped ideas. Get well informed help us can maintaining relations with one another
The reform is a real census to know how many people we've got in US A
Any application requires a fee of
340 dollars for the work authorization and 50 dollars for the form
A total of 390 dollars
2 millions immigrants x 390
780 millions dollars it's more than that
Some immigrantsare vey bright they love America so much they fought for the Country at Savannah and even built Chicago IllinoisThey are hard workers
i see your point and theres many thoughts on the issue heres what i think. its true theres many that don't pay but it doesn't do them any good why? because if they want to get a visa or file papers to become a resident they have to provide alot of info showing that they paid taxes and they also get a backrgound check, check finger prints and whatever history they may have. the U.S has many undocumented tracked down with some kind of history behind them, they can easily deport many immigrants for the bad history they have and those 12+ million people will not all qualify for the reform due to the failing of paying taxes they will have to pay for the years they did not file taxes or bad record will immediately cause deportation.
The government can fix this situation and they know that not all illegal immigrants will be able to qualify for the reform. people who are waiting for something good won't think twice those who are here for the bad will not be here for long if this situation gets cleared effectively once the government stops procrastinating because they do have valuable info on many illegal immigrants, they just need to connect with immigration, IRS, DMV, Social security administration, whatever records they can get from agencies and combine information and get things straight to come up with a solution. if they come up with a reform people will stop hiding and try to fix their immigration status otherwise they will have no other option but to leave to their country being in the U.S. illegaly won't help them survive for too long since they won't be able to get hired to work without legal papers.
