Democracia AHORA launched a new campaign to oust Lou Dobbs from his post at CNN. The new campaign builds on a growing momentum aimed at holding CNN responsible for airing an estimated 260 hours per year of hate filled programming via the Lou Dobbs Tonight show.
Back in July 2009 LatinoPoliticsBlog posted “CNN, the Infamous Lou Dobbs, & Latino in America Series“. The post mentioned “Lou Dobbs’ obsession with illegal immigration borders on the inane.” The post also pointed to a study done by Media Matters which found that Dobbs show “devoted many more segments to immigration than did CNN’s The Situation Room, and 13 times the number of words per hour to the topic.”
Now comes this campaign from AmericasVoice along with a petition for CNN to drop Dobbs. Adam Luna of Americas Voice wrote: “This is about taking a microphone away from one of the most dangerous propagandists in America”
AmericasVoice campaign now marks the third campaign originating from Latino advocacy groups and comes on the heals of Presente.org’s BastaDobbs.com campaign and the Media Matters DropDobbs.com website. Democracia Ahora an advocacy organization committed to advancing federal and state legislation vital to Hispanic communities has also launched a campaign against Lou Dobbs titled TellCNNEnoughisEnough.com

Lou Dobbs has erroneously conflated illegal immigration with a violent crime wave
Lou Dobbs has wrongly stated that leprosy cases are due to illegal immigration and that voter fraud is due to illegal immigration
Lou Dobbs has presented as a fact the “reconquista” myth, which states that there is a movement afoot for Mexico to take over the American Southwest
Lou Dobbs has also perpetuated two related myths, that there are plans to construct a “NAFTA Superhighway” running from Mexico to Canada, and there are plans to join Mexico, Canada, and the United States in a “North American Union”
There appears to be increasing momentum against the hate and racism news personalities such as Dobbs, Beck and Hannitys of the world espouse. When it comes to Lou Dobbs the question is whether these campaigns will succeed in forcing CNN can be accountable and get Dobbs off the air.
Time will tell but, I’m more for having Latinos flexing the power of their wallet and use their 1 trillion purchasing power and boycott the products and services that advertise on Lou Dobbs, Glen Beck and Sean Hannity. That will certainly get the bean counters at CNN and FOX to take notice.
