Obama to El Piolin: Comprehensive Immigration Reform is Coming Soon!
This recent ICE raid at a Bellingham, Wash., manufacturing plan the Yamato Engine Specialists was the first work-site action taken since Obama took office. The fact that the ICE raid actually occurred raised many eyebrows amongst many pro-immigrant groups and advocates.
The concern was that Obama presidency would signal a shift from workplace raids, raids that were all to common during the Bush Administration. The images of hundreds of illegal immigrants being arrested and marched into detention centers became all to common, but immigrant rights groups expect much differently of Obama and his promises of addressing Comprehensive Immigration Reform within his, “first 100 days of office”. So, perhaps Janet Napolitano’s response to Tuesday’s raid highlighted that the Obama administration does take a much different approach to the hot-button issue of illegal immigration.
Comprehensive Immigration Reform, When?
What would Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) look like under an Obama Administration? Perhaps, the easiest way to find out, is to listen to Obama’s words on that issue. NPR has this blog post on a radio interview that popular Spanish radio personality El Piolin (Eddie Sotelo) landed with President Obama. At about the 3:25 minute mark of the interview Sotelo asks Pres. Obama about the passage of Comprehensive Immigration Reform. Obama responds that…well you can listen to his response here:
This was not Obama’s first appearance on Piolin’s show. Presidential Candidate-Obama appeared on the show back in August 2007, and even went so far as to sing a few lyrics on air from “Mexico Lindo Y Querido” (“My Beloved and Beautiful Mexico”).
How good is Obama’s singing performance, well let’s just say, it’s good that he picked politics. Listen to his performance that CNN captured below.
